Gulfport is known as the "Gateway to the Gulf." When you arrive in Gulfport Florida, you will notice beautiful old buildings and the charm of Florida as it was before developers took over Florida. Incorporated less than 20 years later as Disston City, Florida. In 1890, the name was changed to 'Veteran City'. In October, 1910, residents voted to incorporate and name their town Gulfport.
